King of the Ice 2025: The Ultimate Ice Fishing Contest in Sullivan County
Get ready for the 2025 King of the Ice ice fishing contest, happening this weekend, February 16th! For over 30 years, the Sullivan County Conservation Club has been hosting this exciting event, and this year promises to be one of the best yet. Whether you’re a seasoned fisherman or new to the ice fishing scene, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
What to Expect
The King of the Ice contest will be held on White Lake/Kauneonga Lake and offers cash prizes and trophies for the largest fish in five categories: Trout, Pickerel, Perch, Crappie, and Walleye. There are also special youth trophies for anglers 15 years old and under in each category, though no cash prizes will be awarded to younger participants.
The grand prize is the coveted King of the Ice trophy and a $500 cash reward, given to the participant who catches the largest eligible fish—whether youth or adult!
Contest Rules & Details
The contest will run from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. All participants must be registered before heading out onto the ice, and each contestant will receive an event button to display on their outer garment while fishing. The fish you catch during this time at White Lake/Kauneonga Lake will be eligible for entry, but make sure to follow all the event’s official rules to ensure your catch counts.
Prizes for adults will be awarded as follows:
- 1st Place: Trophy & $100
- 2nd Place: $75
- 3rd Place: $50
The contest will feature a combination of length and weight for scoring, and fish must be weighed and measured by the official weighmaster while still alive. If you’re planning to compete, please keep your fish at the weighmaster’s station throughout the day and pick them up after the awards ceremony.
Participants will also have the chance to purchase hats, 50-50 tickets, and raffle tickets at the registration site. See full rules here.
Key Contest Rules:
- Registration: Contestants must register before fishing. Pre-registered participants must check in at the registration booth before heading out.
- Eligible Species: Trout, Walleye, Pickerel, Crappie, and Perch.
- Ice Safety: Use caution on the ice and follow all safety recommendations. The event is at your own risk, so be mindful of thin ice or open water.
- Behavior: All participants must adhere to the rules of good sportsmanship and follow New York State DEC fishing regulations. Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.
Please note: The contest is set to proceed with the assumption of a minimum of 300 paid entrants. If this number is not reached, cash prizes may be adjusted accordingly.
