NY Black Bass Season Closed December 1st
November 30th marks the last day to legally fish for Black Bass in New York to keep.
Starting December 1st, it is now illegal to posses Black Bass with the intention of keeping the fish, no matter if they are large enough or not as the official Black Bass season comes to a close. Other fisheries that are also closed as of December 1st, include Muskellunge, Striped Bass (Hudson River and all inland waters except Delaware River), and Hickory Shad (north of Mario M Cuomo Bridge).
However, New York now allows fishing for Black Bass outside of their normal season with a catch and release season. With this season, anglers may target Largemouth and Smallmouth bass for catch and release, while using artificial lures only. There are some exemptions to this rule as there is no catch and release season valid on the Hudson River and there are other waters where you still may keep black bass such as Bashakill Marsh in Sullivan County. The Black Bass season will remain closed and for catch and release only (except the Hudson River) through Friday June 18, 2021 and reopening Saturday June 19, 2021.
