American Shad

American Shad is a migratory fish species. Recreational and commercial fishing for American shad is prohibited in the Hudson River and the Marine District of New York and any American shad should be immediately released back into the water if they are caught incidentally.

Here’s a great video about the American Shad from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. While it references rivers in North Carolina, the information is the same and is applicable to The Hudson River and other rivers in the Northeast.
